Crit Path Mission - Shadows Crossing


Mission Overview

I took on this mission midway through development after the original Senior Designer was affected by layoffs. By the time I was assigned to this mission, the core experience was blocked out and scripted, but there were key issues that needed to be addressed based on leadership feedback. Specifically, NPC representation and the overall blighted horror themes.

Before making any changes, my first priority was to fully understand the missions vision. My goal wasn’t to reinvent, but rather refine and enhance, while addressing the given feedback. There was so much passion already invested, it was important to preserve that. After aligning with the POD on the vision, I led brainstorming sessions where we identified opportunities using our target reference points, strengthening key moments and improving NPC presentation to better reflect the “destroyed minds” themes.

Beyond narrative and presentation, I also refined the level’s layout, improving flow and adding small exploration spaces for environmental storytelling and to break up the levels linearity. These small spaces were used to deepen the worldbuilding and reinforce the missions unsettling tones.
